Photographer Ron Johnson sent two good pictures of New Holland Honeyeaters but those red blossoms earned this one the guernsey.
Typical of Ron’s work, the picture is technically beyond reproach. Exposure and detail are impeccable but what makes this come together for me is how he managed to capture the (undoubtedly brief) moment when his subject was in profile atop those theatrically red blooms.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Ron spent some considerable time waiting for this opportunity.
